with libmilter you can register callbacks to filter on connect,
header, envelope from, end of header, message, end of message.
there are functions to add headers, message text, etc..
i'm tinkering with it at the moment to see if i can get DNS blacklist
checks done against every IP mentioned in the Received headers. (cause
all my mail comes from my isp via fetchmail, so dnsbl on connect is
useless).
