[ILUG] RE: ILUG digest, Vol 1 #2591 - 6 msgs

Hello there,

My first time to post a submission and I hope you can help me.

The problem is that I do alot of web searches for finding company web site
addresses and this can be, to say the least boring and repetitive and tricky
to get the right one. Especially when there hundreds to be done.
Currently it involves taking each name separately Copy and Paste into a
Search Engine, hope that it returns the web site address. Then copy the
address back into the database.

I have done some research, to see if there a program out there that can do
this in one batch, but to no avail or luck.

What I was hoping is that the program took a list of searchable items (a
company name stored in a database), a search engine would find and resolve
the company web site address, store it in the database relative to the
company name and repeat this for each company name.

The barriers that need to be overcome include, 1. automatically linking the
company name to the search engine without copy and paste, 2. Resolving a web
site address from the company name, 3. Storing/returning the result back
into the database relative to the company name, 4. Repeating the cycle
again.
The resolving of Company addresses can be tricky, especially if the company
hasn't got a well known address.

There is probably a really easy solution to this, but I can't find it.

If anybody has heard of a program or code that is cabable of doing this then
please let me know, it would save a fortune of time and effort.

Regards,
Garreth
