John, not sure if it's useful, but there is some old GL code that I
was playing with years ago, at:

Pretty, and it used to run quite well on a Voodoo card (yeah, that's how
old it is).
I started that from playing around with the examples that come as part of
the GLUT toolkit. A most excellent place to start learning OpenGL, is:

Highly recommended. They deal with data structures in most of the
examples.
