Not sure which distro you're running, but sendmail shipped with redhat
listens on 127.0.0.1 only.  You need to comment out one of the lines in
sendmail.mc and regenerate the sendmail.cf or edit the sendmail.cf directly.
The line in question has a comment before it (search for loopback).
