Hi,
I regularly have to transfer files to and from a box across the net
using scp. I've always found it to be pretty damn slow for this. Someone
(i think mr. brady, but i don't have the evidence to hand) suggested
that i try specifying that ssh use the blowfish cipher instead of the
default 3des. I decided to compare them, and found some interesting
results:
41 megs file d/l. From a dual p3-450 to a p3-800.
3 runs each, with a pre-test run to make sure file was cached.
3des: 14.3s
blowfish: 5s
I have to say i was very susprised at the almost 3x speed difference. I
certainly know which i'll be using in future.
