This is probably a red herring but before resetting your password you
might like to check that it isn't your keyboard mapping that has
changed, if you use non alphanumeric characters in your password. It
happened to me once - couldn't su or ssh to any boxes from my X
session, and I was a very worried camper until I realised what had
happened.
