wehey I've started a fire
the complicating things remark was in relation to the "cat myfile" it's not
that simple an input but there is no point in confusing people by dwelling
on what the input is.
the working result was
mkfifo /tmp/fifo1; mkfifo /tmp/fifo2; program1 < /tmp/fifo1&; program2 <
/tmp/fifo2&; cat myfile | tee /tmp/fifo1 > /tmp/fifo2 (cause i didn't want a
screenfull of it)
