Well.... finally got my grubby mitts on RH8 and have upgraded my desktop
at work. Everything is working beautifully (and seemingly quicker than
RH7.3 as well), apart from a small problem with VMWare.
When shutting down the virtual machine and it synchs the hard disks I
get a VMX: AIO NOT_IMPLEMENTED error, which causes VMWare to exit.
I've Googled on this and it seems it was a problem with VMWare
Workstation 3.0 and kernel 2.4.18-7 - I upgraded my VMWare Workstation
to 3.2 to see if it solved the problem, but no change and VMWare's
support site seems to have no mention of the problem.
I'm wondering if the VMWare modules might not be compiled correctly for
my machine. When running the vmware-config.pl script I got messages
during the compile, such as:
`-m486' is deprecated. Use `-march=i486' or `-mcpu=i486' instead.
cc1: warning: -malign-loops is obsolete, use -falign-loops
cc1: warning: -malign-functions is obsolete, use -falign-functions
Having yet to dip my toe in the water of programming for Linux, I'd
appreciate any assistance as to what the above messages might mean.
Would downgrading my gcc or glibc libraries help, or would that just
cause problems in other areas?
Regards
