I've a curious problem with a smoothwall box I'm installing at the momnet
... wonder if anyone's come across it before ...
The smoothie is a P75 with an ISDN card and a 3c509 10BaseT NIC, the rest of
the machines are 100BaseTX, and all are connected to a central hub. This is
where the problem is ... the hub is 3com's OfficeConnect 10/100 autosensing
hub, which, according to the manual and 3com's site, auto senses speed and
acts as a basic switch where the speeds differ.
All the 100TX connections seem to light-up fine on the hub, but under no
circumstance will the smoothie show up ... Crossover to uplink doesn't work,
although crossover directly connected to the NIC of another box works fine
...
Anyone got a suggestion that doesn't involve "Buy loads of kit" (unless they
have a very cheap source of switching hubs !!!)
