Hi,
We have a large SUN network with a couple of linux boxes on it.
We have many printers all of which work off around 3 or 4 Solaris
print servers.
I'm trying to set up the linux boxes (RedHat 7.3 on Intel) to print
to these printers. If I add a printer using the printconf-gui
program, the printer works perfectly.
If I add the entry straight to the /etc/printcap.local file
and restart lpd then the printer won't work. This is confusing
becuase I am literally copying and pasting the entry that the gui
makes into the /etc/printcap.local file so there is no difference
in the configuration.
After 4 hours I get a message back from the printserver with the
error:
Reason for Failure:
no permission for printer or job data empty
Has anybody encountered this error before or does anybody have any
ideas what the problem might be.
Thanks for your help,
Declan.
