[ILUG] United Devices Cancer Program for Linux

[ILUG] United Devices Cancer Program for Linux

Smith, Graham - Computing Technician Graham.Smith at it-tallaght.ie

There isn't one AFAIK....

There is a statement somewhere on www.ud.com that says they have no plans
to implement any linux client because the numbers of linux clients that
would
generate results wouldn't be enough to warrant the effort of developing it.
Hmm
snubbed or what folks?!

Wine is great but what if you have a bunch of servers that dont run X... a
nice
command line client (with multi-processor support) would be cool.

Its a pity there aren't more useful distributed computing projects. The
likes of
Seti and and those encryption cracking projects dont particularly interest
me....

One thing to be aware about some of the clients for these applications such
as United Devices is that although they use idle cpu time, some of them
use considerable amounts of other resources such as memory.

G.
