I come back to my box this morning to find X (and/or gdm) dead and
unrestartable, and massive numbers of the following errors in
/var/log/messages.
Oct 22 15:36:35 wivenhoe kernel: mtrr: base(0xf8000000) is not aligned on a size(0x360000) boundary
Oct 22 15:36:36 wivenhoe gdm[27901]: gdm_slave_windows_kill_ioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0
Oct 22 15:36:39 wivenhoe kernel: [drm:i810_flush_queue] *ERROR* lockup
Attempting to restart X generated patterns like this:
Oct 23 09:19:46 wivenhoe gdm[25142]: gdm_slave_windows_kill_ioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0
Oct 23 09:19:48 wivenhoe gdm[25144]: gdm_slave_windows_kill_ioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0
Oct 23 09:19:50 wivenhoe gdm[25147]: gdm_slave_windows_kill_ioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0
Oct 23 09:19:51 wivenhoe gdm[25149]: gdm_slave_windows_kill_ioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0
Oct 23 09:19:53 wivenhoe gdm[25151]: gdm_slave_windows_kill_ioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0
Oct 23 09:19:53 wivenhoe gdm[25136]: Failed to start X server several times in a short time period; disabling display :0
and I eventually wimped out and rebooted.
Can anyone suggest what might have been the problem or how to
interpret the errors?
Brendan
