Microsoft just reached an agreement with Sun
in which it will pay around $1.6B to Sun over 10 years.
This worries me mainly because of prior events.
Something similar happened at Corel where
they brought out a desktop linux and office suite.
Then Microsoft gave them $135M and both products
were sold/withdrawn. Many managers moved from
M$ to Corel and they were promptly bought and
made private by a financial outfit with close
ties to M$ (though I notice Corel are now doing
a beta of a native linux wordperfect office).
Now sun have a new desktop system and office suite,
a screenshot of which you can see here:

I wonder how hard Sun are going to push this now?
Or were they just using it as a bargaining chip?
