Not sloppy at all - I just threw together a little Perl program to write
10000 files of about 2K each and it took just under two minutes with a
similar setup. That was of course just one program, but as it's
completely I/O bound I don't imagine a bunch of little workers would
have helped.
But case proven, I guess - for mass mailing with Postix, the overhead of
SMTP injection just isn't that high.
