I know this is not the exact answer but if I where you I'd pick up the
following books and dig in.

For linux..

Linux in a Nutshell
http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/linuxnut4/

Running Linux,
http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/runux4/

For perl..

"The camel book" ,Programming Perl
http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/pperl3/

if you want a soft introduction, examples etc. "Learning perl" or something
similar may be of use.
http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/lperl3/

Lastly there was a Programming Linux wrox book lot of the basics on various
toolkits, scripting, perl etc. with worked examples...

Subject: [ILUG] Linux Administration/Perl Courses

Was wondering if anyone knows of any good courses that are offered in
Dublin where I can get a good all-round grounding in Linux Admin and a
start to Perl programming? Have already got a fair understanding of
Linux, but as I come from a Cobol/Unix background, am lacking in things
like network skills, setting up servers, etc. Also interested in
learning Perl and would appreciate any info on courses in the Dublin
area as well.
