And all the LUGs from Europe, including those which are not
yet officially member states, have come together to show their
opposition to software patents and to raise awareness of free software
among our MEPs.
It is pretty amazing to realise that a bunch of hackers from disparate
countries, culturally and linguistically, have affected their entry into
the european parliament and held their own conferance within.
People are beginning to listen.
As I write this, we are installing Mandrake on politicians' laptops.
Some of the stories of involvement of LUGs in national
government, actually mandating for example the use of open document
standards, are truly inspiring.
We have our work cut out for us in Ireland.
