Mozilla also has each of the above features. I like the interaction of
the various components in Mozilla. Much as I like the look and feel of
Firefox and Thunderbird, I have yet to come across a compelling reason
to use them rather than the integrated Mozilla.

Ok i did write all that crap below which is a bit of a rant

But I'm gonna condense it somewhat.

Mozilla performance was shit.
Thunderbird and Firefox are fast.
Thunderbird and Firefox popularity is growing faster than Mozilla.
Speed is extremely important.
Opensource projects have a habit of sticking their heads in the sand and
denying speed problems.

Because they arent integrated ? I don't find that I will tolerate an
application starting and running
about 5 times slower than another. IMHO Mozilla is just one of several
prominent open source
projects which is starting to ( well I guess it is fixed now ) deal with
shitty speed performance.

Personally I don't need a DOM analyser, IRC client and a Javascript
debugger much
use to me when I just want to send an email or look at bigboobs.com ....
sorry I meant
technical information on the internet.

I always remember fondly my asking the list some time 2 years about the
linux posix threading
library and it's terrible performance ....

I was asked why anyone would want to have so much thread creation in an
application ....

Well apparently a lot of people did want fast thread performance and it
is now available
to anyone with a kernel/glib which supports NPTL .

I don't think a program should have to keep itself in memory by means of
a taskbar
icon/background process in order to have something aproaching decent
startup time.

OpenOffice1.1.1 has finally started to deal with it's shit performance
as well.
Even without the taskbar trick it has managed to improve it's startup
time greatly.

I am going to deploy thunderbird as out email client today to a company
of 20.

Would I have ever done it with the Mozilla suite ... not on your life

I'm going to swap out MS Offfice for OpenOffice by the end of the month ...
Would I have done it untill (1.1.1) the latest version came out ? Never !

And finally would I deploy a big fat J2EE app ( well actually
struts/spring/hibernate stack )
on a Linux box before the *crap* (and it really was about 50 % slower
than windows and
about 80% less scallable) performance of Java on Linux was fixed ?

</rant>
