An RPM is an ephemeral thing just required
at install/upgrade time. Usually I don't
even download them as you can pass a URL to rpm.
On a related note you can rebuild an rpm from
installed files using:
http://freshmeat.net/projects/rpmrebuild/

To setup terminal application foreground colours
appropriate for a dark background:

ls
     cp /etc/DIR_COLORS ~/.dircolors
vim
     echo "set background=dark" >> ~/.vimrc

Note to change colours for linux virtual terminals
     setterm -background white -foreground black -store
