Writer appears good enough in here in terms of interoperability with Word (especially given that there are interoperability issues with different versions of Word anyway).

Replacing Powerpoint is a different matter, however - all timings and transitions are lost, making it a non-runner for collaberative editing of a presentation or running the presentation on someone else's system. Sad days, I had to abandon using it here.
