Back to my machine after a welcome break, to find that several
commands (df and ls -l in particular, though not plain ls) provoke
a segmentation fault and the following error:

The machine has been running all the time, apparently without
problems (apart from /home filling up). Most recent hardware change
(insertion of extra NIC) precedes the problem by about 6 weeks.
Googling suggests hardware problems, but I don't know how to
proceed to debug this. Pointers welcome.
