I find using framebuffer drivers (riva & vesa) leads to intermittent
corruption(Brightly coloured) on consoles with nvidia's binary driver.
Oddly 'nv' never seems to produce this. 

boot with vga=0 to test try it sans fb, unless of course you
require/like high resolution consoles more than X!
