VESA will likely work for you, so from that point of view
it's not poor advice. But, it doesn't fix your problem. I
very much doubt you will be happy with VESA.

The real point is that there is a history of random advice giving
from Bryan and this was just the straw that broke the camels back.
In fact I suspect that poor advice was what kicked off the recent
nvidia conflagration. Fscked if I'm reading back through that crap
to find the actual spark but iirc it was somebody having problems
with nvidia binary drivers. It was suggested that he try all
kinds of random crap that had about 0.1% chance of fixing his
problem.

Random advice is not worth much.

If Paul had not called bullshit, I was about to.

:) It is. You have to wait for the full moon, sacrifice a
virgin, eat a few peyotes and wait for the answer to come to
you in a vision.

Yeah, there's lots of rubbish like that. There is usable
information in there also though.

I see you're being ignored on the xorg list. Not sure why.
You're posts seem fine to me. The developers are a little
distracted with the upcoming release; fixing blocker bugs;
five fixed yesterday, only one added. Then perhaps nobody
is seeing the same problem. Keep trying. If posting to the
xorg list, definitely attach config and log files. If you
are still ignored, time to talk to the ati driver maintainer.

They don't seem to be attached. Could you try again inline.

The attachments may have been stripped.
