Also, although Bryan is certainly entitled to his opinion about the
quality of posted advice from other ILUG members, and about their tone
of expression, this seems a suspiciously convenient weapon for lashing
back at people he's previously disagreed with -- claiming to be doing so
only for the greater good.

My own usual reaction to seeing other people posting bad advice is to
post some of my own, and try to make it clearer and more compelling.
If mine doesn't get heeded, maybe I _wasn't_ sufficiently clear and
compelling -- or the querent's a bit dim, or simply has other views /
priorities.  

In general, I've found that hyperconcern with the ostensibly tender
sensibilities of "newbies" on Linux fora seems to correlate extremely
strongly with passive-aggressive interpersonal politics initiated by
some of the regulars -- and to have fundamentally nothing to do with the
"newbies", really.  Could be coincidence.  ;->
