I disagree, I use(d) 256MB on mdk10, kernel 2.6.xxx and it was very happy
with 256MB. I only recently added an extra 128MB but that was just to
speed the load times in enemy territory.

Adding more RAM will help if you run loads of apps simultaenously, but I
think you have another issue in there. Tried upgrading the installed
packages? There were some new bugfixes for KDE the other week.
