  well, not really.
  just out of ink, actually.

 hint 1:  some Epson USB printers (this one is an Stylus C84 Photo)
          are reported as spewing smoke when they aren't sucking ink.

 hint 2:  the difference between an Epson T0441 and T0431 black ink
          cartridge is the T0441 is only half the size of a T0431.

 hint 3:  but it (the T0441) comes in a nice big oversized box which
          looks like it could a hold a full-sized cartridge.  with a
          price to match the size of the box.

  grrrrr......  ;-\
