If I were you I'd look at dovecot, as it is far simpler to set up and
use, and supports imaps.

The config file is relatively straightforward, and if you are using
fedora core it pretty much runs out of the box.

As far as mail goes, I have my system deliver all mail to a maildir
format directory in my home dir, called Maildir. e.g. ~/Maildir/

Dovecot handles Maildir well, and it allows you to nest subfolders more
easily than the standard mbox format.
