[ILUG] Preserving group & passwd to another server

[ILUG] Preserving group & passwd to another server

Hi Conor,

If I am getting the whole question right, you are planning to move an
Oracle instance from one box to another.

Do you need to move just the database or 11i applications as well?

Depending on the exact nature, there will different steps for each
environment. I am familiar with applications side, but daily work with
DBA gave me some knowledge of operational tasks.

Hi all,

Well since I got no replies on my Oracle FS question, I've decided to
try again ;-0
I'm thinking of rsync'ing /etc from one box to the other.

I know that just copying /etc/passwd & /etc/group is not sufficient.
But I reckon an rsync will be cool - aside from having to be carefull to
exclude certain files such as /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/* and
hostname etc.

Any particular gotchas I should look out for before I proceed?
Suggestions for files to exclude are most welcome.

Thanks
Conor.
