I haven't really followed this thread,
but the simplest way to compile from a source rpm
is to install the rpm with "rpm -Uvh ..." or whatever,
and then use rpmbuild to work from the SPEC file, something like
"rpmbuild -ba ../SPECS/xorg-x11.spec"
But maybe you are talking about something else ...
