competitors for Microsoft software which are essentially free.
presenter: would the attacker then eh, by definition be competitors.
William: NO, because these competitors ,they don't really exists as
companies, although they're are some companies such as Open Office.org
and eh, Star Office and lynux, but em, Microsoft has put all the
commercial competition out of business,or they bought them up or
whatever,eh oh,open source software is developed by volunteers and
anybody can go into the website and have a look at how the program is
developing, throw in a suggestion and say you know you should include my
Presenter: The experts say that they are going to move on Microsoft
tomorrow, is this worm an expression of hatred of Microsoft.
William: Absolutely, that exactly what it is, and also the reason the
SCO company was targeted was because,eh if you go to a website, such as
open office.org,you can download a free copy of what is the competitor
for Microsoft Office,an equivalent of Microsoft word, and equivalent of
Microsoft excel, which probably most of you have their computers.
Presenter: Is their any protection against this.
William: Eh,em,Yes two things you can do, number one, if you have
windows and Microsoft office get the updated version,by connecting to
the Internet and going to Microsoft website and downloading, that won't
protect you if you have the virus already, and if you do the thing to do
is to unplug the computer from the Internet, plug it out of the network
if you can.And then use a different computer to, eh em , maybe go to a
web cafe Sophos.com,which is an anti virus company, and you can download
onto a floppy disk their free,eh ,cleaning utility,eh,which will clean
up your computer.
Presenter: Very good, William Campbell, Director BUA Training.
