Yes it does and it runs out of the box without a recompile. Make sure you have 
sasl plus the various libsasl plugins installed. This website has some notes 
on using postfix with auth smtp... worked for us

Departing from this tangentially, does anyone know if the version
Postfix shipped with Mandrake 9.1 will do SMTP AUTH without a recompile,
and if so, what additional software I'll have to install?
