This email concerns certain rumours that have been going around today.
It has been suggested that some employers may be contacted to see if they
concur with their employee's postings in the Morning Ireland thread.
Please note that this is speculation and as of yet we have had no
indication that this will indeed be the case.
ILUG continues to respect and support free and open discussion -
particulary in relation to the issues involving LINUX and the open
source community. We would see contacting employers, clients, parents
and children of *any* thread participant as a gross attempt to chill
that free and open discussion.
To put it simply, we want to keep this process open in order to encourage
debate within our community and within other communities. Therefore,
we can see very few circumstances where these types of threats could
be condoned.
As it isn't possible to determine the actual identity of the person
considering this course of action - if they even exist - we strongly
suggest it would be wrong of any person involved in the discussion
(ILUG member or no) to make accusations about this person.
As always, we would appreciate any feedback on this matter from anyone
involved.
Signed,
The Committee
