[ILUG] Expo. Just some Thought

[ILUG] Expo. Just some Thought

Just some rambling, not knowing 2 much about Linux or the ILUG.

I don't know what funding is available to the Committee.

But having trained as a cameraman. (previous life)
I know the value of an EPK (Electronic Production Kit).

People love TV. "Pictures speak a 1000 words"
(May not be possible for this year)
(May also require members to donate some hard-earned)

If possible put together, a 5min. max piece.
Showing:
1: A brief explanation of Linux.
2: A comparision with MS Windows ie:

Use a named company (with their consent) to show cost saving vis-a-vis
licensing, upgrades etc.
(At the end of the day, until Business see's an advantage, it won't really
become mainstream. Then trickle down to general use)

An example "How much would maybe "Dept. of Education" save the economy if
running Linux (maybe they already use it?)

3: Have a Desktop & Server Scenario, in lieu of lonely laptop.
4: Have a handout ready as a follow up to the EPK. (contacts, info, maybe
in their own locale)

In relation to above:
Q: Ask yourself why is the like of ECDL basically a MS vehicle?

A: Business

Some Questions that may be asked.

Can I do my accounts on it, tax, & vat?
What about spreadsheets, db etc?
What about some DTP?

Can my kid play games?

Examples anyone?

Just my 2c.

Frank
