There's a list of Linux equivalents for Windows software here:
http://www.linux.ie/newusers/alternatives.php

A good place to search for Linux software is http://freshmeat.net/

I'm afraid I don't know of any Linux software that provides all the
templates for cards, calendars, etc. But OpenOffice.org
(http://openoffice.org) should be able to cope with most desktop
publishing tasks.

The Gimp (http://gimp.org) is a very full-featured image editor, and
there are lots of tutorials out there to help get to grips with the Gimp
way of doing things (e.g. http://gimp-savvy.com/BOOK/)

This, I don't know about. You might be able to use SquidGuard, and it's
freely published blacklist (http://www.squidguard.org/blacklist/) to
block/modify web pages, but it won't be foolproof (but then, neither is
the Windows-based censorware).

Good luck,

David
