[ILUG] Question about memory allocation

[ILUG] Question about memory allocation

Lars Hecking lhecking at nmrc.ie
Mon Feb 23 14:19:45 GMT 2004

Assuming a 2.4.x kernel on ia32, is it possible to malloc memory chunks > 2GB?
If not, is there any way to change this via /proc or kernel recompile?

(I don't think so because size_t is 4 bytes, but I need to ask ...)

Can I assume that this particular limitation does not exist on ia64?

Pointers to documentation (other than the kernel sources ;-) are also welcome.
