[ILUG] Commands have stopped working

Ok, I've got slightly further now.  I edited the .bashrc file with the right
path and that has solved most of it.  However the command startx doesn't
work.  I expect that's just a matter of finding where that command is and
adding it to the path, however I'm getting a few lines of errors when I log
in which may help to diagnose what's causing this.

-bash: [: too many arguements
-bash: put: command not found
-bash: put: command not found
-bash: wc: command not found
-bash: [: : integer expression expected
