[ILUG] Debian or Fedora?

I just asked the infobot on #debian about "sata", and it said:

07:24 <dpkg> You'll need Jeff Garzik's libata patch for Serial ATA support,
about which see http://lwn.net/Articles/52488/ . If you need that
in your installer, see http://oregonstate.edu/~kveton/debian/ on
how to craft your own netinst with a homemade custom kernel. If
that seems like a lot of trouble, it's price you pay for using
bleeding-edge hardware. ("You can tell the pioneers by the arrows
             in their backs.")

Of course, I _fed_ it that information tidbit yesterday. ;->
