That's okay.. bafflement is a requirement on 99% of conversations on 
ILUG (cf the IRC channel or the Kit Car thread above).

As I said, the main reason I like being able to get packaged kernels is 
because it allows me to forget about looking after another set of files. 
  The set of files in my home directory is hard enough to manage thank 
you, even though CVS looks after my sources usually, that I'd like not 
to have to worry about editing /etc/lilo.conf for a new kernel, or 
/boot/grub/menu.lst, or tidying up in /lib/modules when I decide that 
2.6.5-rc1-mm1-pre5 actually isn't very good.

Possibly a disadvantage. Personally, I haven't used a floppy in a very 
long time, but to each his own. Hail apple, killers of the floppy drive :)
