[ILUG] Weird IDE drive

[ILUG] Weird IDE drive

Hello,

I received today a couple of servers which all contain a 40GB IDE drive.
The problem is that the BIOS doesn't handle it right, seeing only 6GB
out of 40GB.

Linux Debian woody installer sees 8GB on it but not more. Now the
interesting fact is that if i boot up a gentoo live CD with SMP kernel,
it sees the 40GB of the drive.

Is there anything i missed ? I need to boot up a debian SMP kernel but
didn't find a CD around with that feature.

I'm onto the reseller of the server to see if a bios update is available
as well. I also noticed that the lilo parameter : hd=cyl, sect, head (as
documented on F3) does not work.

Any help welcome.
Steph
