hi Paul,
Only problem is that its like talking to the wall.
The IT manager, Head of Science Dept, and everyone who make decisions
are pro Microsoft, and that will not change soon.
I think the only thing that would change there minds is if the really
had to cut costs, or the dept of education said something.

That's the reason i said that the WIT now has the biggest Internet Cafe
and soon to be the Cafe part(its been build). I have spend 1.5 years
there so far and nothing has changed, I personally think, that they will
down the line see the light but not before places like
DIT,UCD,TCD etc,are turing out students who are better prepared to face
the chanallages that the workplace will bring.
Here is just one situation:
When the new IT building was being build, over the last 14-16 months, We
knew that the the place where the computer Society has placed it
computers would be used for different things once the IT building was
build,So we requesting in writing and verbally for to be allocated new
space in the IT building or somewhere else. Today i went into college
and was checking my email, Then about 9:30am putty froze up.
So i tried again nothing, I had a feeling it was something to do with
the new building so i went to the room where the Comp soc computers
where and to my amazment the place was gutted,The admin was there but
not before the guys pulled the power of the machines.

To make a long story short.
After requesting space 12-14 months previous and every few months bring
up the subject again,so the head of the science dept would not forget.
The computer society machines are homeless. Now it they really cared
about students and helping out they would have allocated us space ASAP,
The society has grown beyond the cabnet under the desk.

Just goes to show it takes nice people to do do nice things.
I would be very interested in seeing what level of support other
colleges give there Computer Socieities.

Some sob story isn't it.
