I have been visiting sites of all types for many years and have very rarely
looked at what hosting the sites are on. Ok this is something that some, but
only a minor minority will take into account.

Very true. But if the site ONLY sold linux products and services and claimed
that Open Source technology was the best, surely your feelings would be
different?
Linux is great, but maybe not good enough to host our site???
