[ILUG] Hypocrisy?

[ILUG] Hypocrisy?

Alan alan at takestock.ie

I was not trying to defend anything or anyone. the fact of the matter is
that it does not matter to me what you or anyone thinks on the site being on
windows hosting. The fact is we are selling Linux and we will be selling
window as well. so must I set up another site to keep everyone happy.
As for you thinking that trying to rile you. I sorry but this comment was
not aimed at anyone. It was just my opinions.

"we also offer Windows hosting"

Well I would never be able to buy your services as, I just could not use a
host which promoted Linux and sold window.

By the way I don't lurk. I will stick to my guns and say once again "I will
only consider moving to Linux when the funds are available to do it.

Thanks for letting me know what we are using for the backend, I just could
not figure that one out on my own

With all due respect I would be inclined to disagree with every single word
of your last couple of postings.

Did you honestly think that a site selling Linux products while hosted on
Windows would slip through 'the net'?
You seem to think that none of us would spot that it runs on ASP, which is,
of course Windows based. Considering the fact that so many good LAMP based
ecommerce packages exist your defence is quite flimsy.
Of course you are entitled to your own opinion etc., but receiving some form
of criticism is common when you expose yourself on a mailing list. It's much
safer to 'lurk'. However you should not think that you are 'special' when
you are singled out and your obvious distaste at being caught in the Redmond
camp on a linux mailing list is quite amusing.

In an earlier mail you muttered the following:
"maybe some people that only sell Linux hosting are not
making there decisions on anything to do with running a business, but on
some notion that they are better than others."

I would assume that you were trying to rile me with that. An interesting,
but a wholly inaccurate comment. The TCO of Linux is far lower than Windows,
so from a purely economical point of view advocating LAMP hosting makes good
business sense. However, as we are in business and not into as much
"tree-hugging" as you might wish to think, we also offer Windows hosting.

Now, the only part of your 'argument' that could be seen to hold any water
was that related to the amount of work involved. Hmmm.. Interestingly enough
there are quite large similarities between http://www.thelinuxmall.com and
http://www.takestock.ie

" A lot of hard work has been put into this
> site"
Yes. So much that you didn't even bother to check the spelling on your main
site or that of thelinuxmall

" so if the fact that this site is on
> windows hosting is a problem then maybe you should have a go at setting up
> and operating one on Linux"

Heh. Don't tempt me.
You are using a slightly modified version of
http://www.vpasp.com/virtprog/vpasporder.htm as your backend, which
strangely enough runs on LAMP too.
Of course the fact that you are supposedly supporting Linux and Irish
business and yet insist on hosting on Windows in the UK is an intriguing
choice.

"> I am sorry that anything that I do is offensive to a small and
> insignificant
> few."

Oh. I've been called a lot of things in my time but never small, or maybe
you are still having issues with the concept of good syntax and puncuation.
