I setup LDAP authentication here for MacOSX clients. It was pretty easy to
set up and was an elegant solution. Also once you have everything in LDAP
you can authenticate all types of things to it like logins, squid,
htaccess and WebDAV folders. I think Samba can authenticate to it as well,
but haven't tried that.
With OpenLDAP you need to ensure your using a compatible version of
BerkeleyDB. Thats about the only problem we ran in to.
