Well, that's the big problem with fedora :) the 2.4 kernels compile only with 
3.2. There is a gcc-compat (if memory helps) package in the distrib (or try 
running "gcc32" to check if you have it). I compile the kernel (and other 
extra modules) with the following steps:

1. go to the kernel dir
2. make distclean (this is only if you tried to compile it with gcc3.3)
3. "export CC=gcc32" (or to be sure "alias gcc='gcc32' :) )
4. do a make xconfig/menuconfig and load one of the default configs
5. do a make dep (this would prepare things for adding external modules)
6. cd to the module dir
7. make module.

This should do it. :)
