Yeah, RAID is not the issue here, turns out the second maxtor drive i
received was also a faulty one waiting to die on me.

well, let's just say, as Conor was pointing out that since i carry
backups for my girlfriend, she would be quite offended to loose 5+
years of emails. Yes, there are CD burners out there but raid1 setup
with cron jobs work without human intervention.
