I dont know, IMHO, mirrored 5 is the better tradeoff.

They have onboard SCSI controllers, plug the disks into the plain 
symbios controllers. Presuming the Compaq RAID controller stuff cant 
export disks as JBOD (which i'm sure it can - indeed, dont Proliants 
these days use the onboard symbios controllers for RAID, rather than 
seperate SMART RAID card?).
