Indeed - a lot of a good SA's time is spent planning for recovery from
improbable events. I take it Tim that you do have car insurance? When did you
last have a car crash? And you have fire insurance for your house? When did
you last have a house burn down?

And if you're involved in managing more than a couple of machines you WILL
have disk failures. These are NOT improbable events. They happen, and the only
unpredictable thing is exactly when (though SMART helps with the prediction
part). In this office I have a stack of about 6 dead / very sick drives on a
shelf - from a population of < 20 machines.
