At this point, it would really be worth your while to go install
apt-rpm, and set up the sources.list to use an Irish mirror (as
suggested by John & Michele respectively). Trying to sort out all of
this manually is approaching masochism.
I can recommend it whole-heartedly as the only way to make Red Hat
distributions usable.
