Right - we now have quite a few vacancies in various different areas,
so here are the details. If anyone is interested, please drop me an
email; if I know you and believe that you'd be good for the job, we can
expedite part of the application process. I would ask you to note that
Google has *extremely* high standards, and I'm afraid we don't really
have any entry-level positions; we're mostly looking for experienced
staff.
Salary and benefits are in all cases dependent on your skillset and
previous experience, but will be competitive with the industry. My
personal experience is that Google is an excellent company to work for
- good people, good environment, good technology.

Site Reliability Engineers
These positions are located in the European Operations HQ in Dublin,
Ireland.
Are you part ace scripter or coder, part networking and UNIX expert,
and part adrenaline junkie? Do you have a knack for seeing a problem
and immediately discerning the likely solution? Maybe you've been
coding for years, are bored with the old
design-build-review-test-ship-repeat routine, and yearn for some
faster-paced challenges? Or perhaps you're a genius at jockeying
networks and administering UNIX clusters, but are eager to hone your
scripting skills in the forge that is Google?
We're looking for top-notch CS-oriented thrill-seekers to join our Site
Reliability team. Our Site Reliability Engineers are in the thick of
everything involved with keeping Google running, from troubleshooting
traffic anomalies to maintenance of our services, from monitoring and
alerts to building new automation infrastructure. We have a wide range
of current openings – all require strong analytical and troubleshooting
skills, fluency in scripting or coding, good communication abilities,
and most of all enthusiasm for tackling the complex problems of scale
which are uniquely Google. Site Reliability Engineers tackle
challenging, novel situations every day, and work with just about every
other engineering and operations team in the process.
Requirements:
* BA/BS in CS, or equivalent experience.
* In-depth knowledge of Linux, networking, and scripting (bash, Perl,
Python)
* Proven technical troubleshooting experience.
* Excellent analytic ability, strong communication skills, and a sense
of urgency.
* Ability to handle periodic on-call duty as well as out-of-band
requests.
* 3+ years experience in a similar position a big plus.
* Experience with Unix system administration a plus.

Site Reliability Manager
This position is located in the European Operations HQ in Dublin,
Ireland.
Do you enjoy being at the centre of things? Pride yourself on being
thorough and on paying attention to the details? As we continue to
grow, we're looking for a hands-on manager for our growing site
reliability group. This group is one of the key groups responsible for
the stellar uptime record of google.com. You'll be responsible for
ensuring website and application reliability and will work with other
teams to handle Google's growth in traffic and services. To be
successful you need a very strong technical background combined with
excellent project management and interpersonal skills. Compared to the
Operations Manager, this position focuses on the application-level
aspects of our site rather than the OS level. Responsibilities include:
managing day-to-day google.com site operations, driving problem
resolutions to completion, coordinating with other teams in Engineering
and Operations to ensure site reliability, and working closely with our
Applications and Cluster Engineering teams as our system grows.
Requirements:
* BA/BS in a technical field (CS preferred).
* 4+ years experience in Operations or technical project management or
closely-related field.
* Demonstrated excellence in project management.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Experience with large scale web sites a plus.

Network Reliability Engineers

an exciting opportunity to learn about Google’s network infrastructure
this is your chance.
Responsibilities:
* Monitor and support Google's growing network infrastructure.
* Maintain network reliability through problem resolution and
escalation.
* Analyze network traffic to identify performance and resource
utilization problems.
* Participate in rotating "on call" schedule with other members of the

* BA/BS in CS is preferred or equivalent.
* 3-5 years of experience with LAN/WAN routing and switching.
* Experience with several network monitoring and other network
administration tools.
* Experience and flexibility regarding on-call responsibilities.
* Skilled with network routing protocol troubleshooting (BGP, OSPF).
* Excellent knowledge of TCP/IP.
* Excellent written and verbal communication.
* Strong coordination and logistics.
