I dont use either mozilla mail or eircom, but I generally find telneting
to the port you're having difficulty with a better troubleshooting tool
than using ping. So in your case I'd try "telnet mail.eircom.net 25"
If its working you should get something like:
Trying 159.134.198.135...
Connected to mail1.eircom.net.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 mail00.svc.cra.dublin.eircom.net ESMTP
Hit control ] then enter to exit.
