[ILUG] Evolution 1.4 :: Gnome broken!! Help

Hi
(against my better judgement) I installed Evolution 1.4.

Installed fine but installer broke my libpthread library by relinking
to an older library.

I fixed this by ln -sf /lib/i686/libpthread.10.so
/lib/i686/libpthread.so.0

Now Evolution, Mozilla and other apps like Matlab & XMaple work fine.

But now Gnome is broken.

To get a X display to run I need to start with the minimal X session
with no display manager.

I suspect this is because I chose to install the Red Carpet version of
Gnome & some scripts have been messed up?

I really would appreciate advice on how to fix this!!

Thanks in advance,

John
